A very interesting introductory talk by Jasmine Zahno & Joseph Pelrine that takes a science based approach to explain what psychological safety is and isn’t, steps you can take to achieve it, its impact at different levels, psychometrics and many more.
Thank you both for sharing the findings from your experience and from the scientific community! Much information I’ve seen so far in presentations was based on personal experiences and gut feeling. I think it’s valuable to have those presented also because they generate conversations and awareness. The downside is when the conversations are unbalanced, focusing too much on personal observations, rather than results of research.
Quoting one of the psychological safety definitions from the presentation: „a team climate characterized by interpersonal trust and mutual respect which people are comfortable being themselves.” (Edmondson, 1999)
Surprising finding that I think makes sense in retrospect: “Teams with high level of psychological safety are more likely to engage in unethical behavior” (Persall & Ellis, 2011)
