One of the most inspiring and insightful interviews I’ve seen in a long time. I’ve listened and watched it 3 times so far. She seems such an amazing leader. I encourage you to watch it. Here are some of the ideas that resonated with me:
- search for a workplace where you can really be you -> opportunity for long-term success
- all important decisions regarding your career are taken in a room where you are not present -> you need a sponsor who can speak for you in that room
- how to get a sponsor: find out what people are in that room and have insight on what you do and build a relationship with some of them.
- when senior people say “my door is always open”, take them on it
- senior people want access to junior people, but are as afraid to reach out as junior people are
- what it means to be authentic: 1. know who you are, 2. realize we are all multi-faceted, 3. relax and meet people where they are
- as a leader, never let someone coming to ask for help leave empty-handed, it takes a lot of courage and effort to ask for help
- the mentor is the person you tell the good, the bad, the ugly, with the sponsor you need to focus on the good, the good, the good
- when faced with an abusive boss, you build a network around that person and/or you confront them and talk to their boss as well
- how to ask great questions in group meetings: if you would own and run that meeting, what would I be thinking?
- when you sponsor people, you give your power away -> you empower others to execute. But you also become a king-maker and grow your network of influence. https://lnkd.in/d6h3PZix
